Key Details:

  • Working Days: 4 days per week with 1:4 weekends
  • Hours: Daytime shifts. No out-of-hours. On-call only for overnight inpatients
  • Duties: Lead clinical standards, mentor colleagues, deliver consultations and surgeries

About the Role:

  • The client is seeking a Head Veterinary Surgeon to lead a small animal team and drive continuous improvement in clinical standards and services.
  • The role requires a confident clinician with a strong general practice skill set who can set and uphold evidence-based protocols, support case management, and ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
  • The Head Vet will coach, develop, and inspire colleagues, align the team to a strategic clinical vision, and foster a culture of learning and accountability.
  • The clinical caseload includes a mix of consultations, routine and advanced procedures, and varied diagnostics, with scope to support areas of special interest.
  • The working pattern is four days per week with one in four weekends. There is no out-of-hours service, with on-call required only if there are overnight inpatients.

About the Practice:

The practice is a modern, purpose-built small animal surgery with digital radiography, ultrasound, and well-equipped theatres and consult rooms. The environment is designed to deliver calm patient experiences and assured client interactions. The current team comprises experienced veterinary surgeons and registered veterinary nurses, with active interests in exotics and imaging that contribute to a varied and engaging caseload. The practice invests in professional development through structured CPD, in-house training, and initiatives that address skill gaps across all roles. It maintains strong links with the local community through events, education, and fundraising, and supports students and new graduates, several of whom have progressed into permanent roles. The practice is part of a nationwide, independent, family-owned veterinary group committed to high clinical standards and colleague wellbeing.
