Permanent OOH Veterinary Surgeon – Colchester

Key Details:

• Working Pattern: Out-of-hours rota with flexibility. Example patterns include 4 on/8 off, 5 on/10 off, or 7 on/14 off
• Hours: Overnight and out of hours, with inpatient care and emergency case management
• Duties: Emergency and urgent case management, overnight inpatient care, and ECC-focused clinical work
• Salary: A competitive salary is available, around £80,000 per annum FTE, depending on experience and skillset.

About the Role:

• The client is seeking an experienced Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join a collaborative night team within a purpose-built referral hospital. The role will focus on emergency and urgent presentations, stabilisation, and inpatient care overnight.
• The position suits a confident clinician with a strong interest in Emergency and Critical Care who values teamwork and access to advanced facilities.
• The rota is flexible and can be tailored, with examples including 4 on/8 off, 5 on/10 off, or 7 on/14 off. A 5 on/10 off option is available to offer extended time away from work.
• The practice supports tailored CPD and certificate study, with structured support from the day of referral clinical team.

About the Practice:

• The practice operates a brand-new multidisciplinary small animal referral hospital with Advanced RCVS accreditation. The clinical team comprises more than 40 professionals, including Advanced Practitioners and certificate holders across Orthopaedics, Medicine, ECC, Surgery, Imaging, and Exotics. Facilities include CT, ultrasound, an endoscopy suite, operating loupes, a slit lamp, a CryoPen, and a fully equipped ICU. There is 24/7 onsite hospitalisation with dedicated night RVNs and auxiliary staff.
