Key Details:
- Working Days: 4 days per week with 1 in 4 weekends; part-time considered if able to cover 1 in 4 weekends
- Hours: 40-hour rota, no out-of-hours, minimal on-call approximately 3–4 times per year
- Duties: Predominantly surgical caseload with standard emergency procedures and management of complex medical cases
About the Role:
- The client is seeking an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a surgical bias. The successful candidate will be a competent surgeon who is comfortable with standard emergency procedures and confident in managing complex medical cases. An interest in laparoscopic surgery would be advantageous but is not essential.
- The role offers a balanced rota with a four-day week, one weekend in four, and no out-of-hours duties, supported by a minimal on-call commitment. Part-time applications are welcomed, provided weekend commitments can be met.
- The position includes an attractive salary up to £70,000 p/a, reflective of skills, experience and hours agreed.

About the Practice:
The practice is a 24-hour RCVS-accredited small animal hospital serving Basildon and the surrounding area. It operates from purpose-built, state-of-the-art facilities that include a CT scanner and newly expanded MRI capability. The multidisciplinary team comprises 14 vets, including surgical and medical certificate holders, with colleagues currently studying certificates in surgery, orthopaedics, cardiology, exotics, and medicine. A highly skilled nursing team includes Schedule 3 and imaging-trained professionals, alongside a Hydrotherapist, two Physiotherapists, and ten Client Care Advisers. Services span gold-standard inpatient care, first opinion small animal consultations and procedures, and a wide range of outpatient referrals including emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, advanced imaging, hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, laser therapy, and rehabilitation.
