Key Details:
- Working Days: Flexible out-of-hours rota. Example patterns include 4 on/8 off, 5 on/10 off, or 7 on/14 off
- Hours: Overnight and out-of-hours cover with inpatient care
- Duties: Manage emergency and urgent cases, provide overnight inpatient care, deliver high clinical standards out of hours
- Salary: A competitive salary is available at approximately £80,000 per annum FTE, dependent on experience and skill set
About the Role:
- Our client is seeking an experienced Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon to join a dedicated night team within an Advanced RCVS Accredited Small Animal Referral Hospital.
- The role suits a confident clinician with a strong interest in Emergency and Critical Care.
- The post holder will manage emergency admissions, stabilise and treat urgent cases, oversee overnight inpatient care, and ensure continuity of care into the day team. Collaboration with skilled night RVNs and close liaison with the day referral team will be routine.

- The rota will be tailored to suit lifestyle and service needs, with patterns such as 4 on/8 off, 5 on/10 off, or 7 on/14 off.
- Flexible working arrangements include full-time, part-time, and weekend options.
- The service offers exposure to varied and complex cases with support from Advanced Practitioners and experienced certificate holders across multiple disciplines.
- The position provides structured development, including support for ECC skill advancement or certificate study.
About the Practice:
The practice is a purpose-built, multidisciplinary referral hospital in Colchester with 24/7 inpatient care. The clinical team comprises over 40 professionals, including Advanced Practitioners and certificate holders in Orthopaedics, Medicine, ECC, Surgery, Imaging, and Exotics. Facilities include CT, ultrasound, an endoscopy suite, operating loupes, a slit lamp, a CryoPen, and a fully equipped ICU. Night RVNs and auxiliary staff provide continuous support on site.
