An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join a well-established, independent small animal hospital in the heart of Somerset. About the Practice: This modern, purpose-built veterinary hospital has been designed to provide state-of-the-art facilities, with eight consultation rooms, an expansive surgical suite, and a dedicated team of certificate holders across multiple disciplines, including surgery, medicine, ophthalmology, and dermatology. The practice also offers referral services in ophthalmology and surgery, including orthopaedics.

The Team: The team fosters a positive, friendly, and knowledge-sharing culture, ensuring every team member feels supported and valued. The leadership team, which includes experienced veterinary directors, remains active in clinical work, offering guidance and mentorship.

The Role & Work-Life Balance: Full-time, 4-day working week with a fixed day off 15-minute consults, with double slots for complex cases Dedicated operating time ? each vet has at least one full surgery day per week OOH support from dedicated night RVNs ? on-call shifts are from home, with attendance only when necessary Option to work a 3-day week for those joining the OOH rota Rota: For 7 weeks out of the 9-week rolling rota, you will work a 4-day week with no Saturdays, no weekends, and no on-call night shifts. They’ve achieved this by creating blocks; In Week 1, you do a Saturday morning consult and are on-call for the daytime only for the rest of Saturday and Sunday. Following this, you have a 3-day week, with the Monday off in addition to the Friday. Week 2, you only do nights (no day shifts) and a short consulting shift on Saturday morning; you then have 7 weeks with no weekends or nights. It?s not as complicated as it sounds, and it works well for the team. They are also happy to consider a 3-day week for a vet joining the OOH rota. Beyond the Clinic The team enjoys regular social activities, with a dedicated fun budget for meals, theatre trips, and days out. The practice also actively participates in charity and community events. Located in Wellington, Somerset, the area offers a beautiful countryside setting, with proximity to the Quantock Hills, Blackdown Hills, and South Devon beaches. It is also well-connected, just 5 minutes from the M5, with easy access to Bristol, Exeter, and Taunton, with direct train links to London in under two hours.
